Arrest Warrants Issued for 3 Employers of Body Fashion.
Ms. Peemai Rathwongsa The leader of the laid-off Body Fashion workers has said that the 24-June Democratic Group filed a proposal to the labour wing MP of Move Forward party to proceed with the general debate between 3–4 Apr 2024.
The proposal suggests that the debate examine the ethical standards of political office holder Mr. Pipat Ratchakitarn, the Minister of Labour regarding the cases of non-compliance with labor laws which includes the lack of criminal prosecution of the employers who have laid off over a thousand workers and failed to pay compensation in accordance with labor law.
On March 23, 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Pitak Sonnok, Deputy Superintendent of Bang Sao Thong Police Station said that he had went ahead with the prosecution of the Body Fashion employers: Mr. Robert Alan Ng Manliang, Miss Manping Anita Chanmis and Mr. Worasak Hongsamut. The authorized directors have violated the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541 (1998) under the Criminal Cases 134/2024 and 135/2024.
The police has requested permission to issue an arrest warrant against the accused to the Samut Prakan Provincial Court and the court approved the warrant on request and has notified the investigation department to arrest the accused for prosecution.
Body Fashion, the manufacturer of Victoria’s Secret Triumph, Sloggi, HOM, Valisere, etc. has laid off more than a thousand workers without compensation since 2019. The Labour Court ordered the company to pay compensation of more than 100 million Baht. However, the workers have not received said compensation.
While the criminal prosecution was delayed for more than four years, an investigation was finally conducted and an arrest warrant was issued.
Ms. Peemai Rathwongsa added that the company Body Fashion was succeeded by Mr. Robert NG from Triumph International. Prior to the dismissal, employees continued to produce Triumph underwear.
From the audit of shareholders’ accounts in 2019, it was found that Body Fashion Thailand located at Unit 1001, 10th Floor, Star House 3 Charisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.
